Los Angeles

Los Angeles is the largest city in the state of California and the second largest in the United States. Los Angeles has an estimated population of 3.8 million and covers nearly 500 square miles. The metro area of Los Angeles is home to nearly 13 million people, almost all of which are in need of window cleaning, blind cleaning, gutter cleaning, or chandelier cleaning at one time or another. The residents of LA come from all over the world and speak a large diversity of languages: nearly 230 different languages are spoken daily in this cultural melting pot. Los Angeles is of course the biggest and brightest star of Los Angeles County, the most populated and county in the United States. Los Angeles is a world renowned international center for technology, education, entertainment, fashion, business and of course window cleaning. Its appeal is evident in the vast amount of domestic and international travelers and relocators it attracts every year. Los Angeles was founded September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de la Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of Porziuncola). It became a part of Mexico in 1821, following its independence from Spain. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican-American War, Los Angeles and California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States; Mexico retained the territory of Baja California. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. It would be yet 150 years before Avid Window Cleaning was to arrive on the scene.

A Little Los Angeles History

The Los Angeles coastal area was first settled by the Tongva and Chumash Tribe members hundreds of years ago. A Spanish explorer name Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo arrived in 1542 and named the area "the City of God" claiming for the Spanish Empire. The first European settlement happened 227 years later, when Gaspar de Portola, along with a Franciscan missionary named Juan Crespí, arrived in 1769. The pueblo, or town, wasn't officially founded until September 4, 1781. The town was originally called El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula (The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels on the Porciúncula River) originally having 40 some resident settlers. The first to need window cleaning, blind cleaning, chandelier cleaning, or gutter cleaning. Today, that original small pueblo is commemorated in the historic district of Los Angeles Pueblo Plaza and Olvera Street, the oldest area of what is now Los Angeles.

After New Spain achieved its independence from the Spanish in 1821, the pueblo was controlled by Mexico. During wich time Los Angeles became Alta California's regional capital. Following the Mexican–American War Americans took control of the area. Los Angeles City Hall, was built in 1928 and was the tallest structure needing window cleaning in the city until 1964, when height restrictions were removed. By 1900, the population had grown to more than 100,000 people 30 years later that number grew ten fold. In the 1920s, the motion picture and aviation industries arrived in Los Angeles. Following the war the city's metro area expanded into the San Fernando Valley. The downtown area Los Angeles saw heavy development in the 1980s and 1990s. Today the city of Los Angeles is widely admired enjoying international appraise as evident in its cultural diversity and even its domestic traffic. Today Avid Window Cleaning strives to make the Los Angeles view that much brighter.
